2007
Porto Alegre, Brazil

This project was prepared for the Gremio soccer club and besides the stadium it is also a multi-use enterprise in an area just outside the city, with the purpose of attending the surroundings redevelopment. The project resulted from private bid of design, build and operation of the stadium. It was the result of one of the earliest actions in Brazil offered by a soccer club with the aim occasion on which the country had been selected for the 2014 FIFA World Cup, enabling the construction of a new stadium. When a new context was still unknown in Brazil and the entire market was just learning about the arenas and their different business plans, and how sports club should change their strategic outlook under this new scenario.

The proposal we ventured was to break a current local paradigm among soccer clubs with their own grounds on relocating their stadiums, and against the resistence sentimental and non-rational arguments, as studies had evidenced that the original ground’s location was not large enough to accommodate a new stadium, which therefore had to be built elsewhere in the city. The club then turned to the competitive group but have decided on a new stadium on the site recommended by Fernandes group.
